July is notorious for the worst weather in Melbourne. Fortunately, we missed the brunt of it; spring was in the air by early August. The first blooms appeared while the days gradually became longer and warmer.
I'm looking forward to a big summer of athletic challenges. I've started training for a few endurance cycling and swimming events, as well as triathlons. I'm also staying busy with planning road trips over the coming holiday weekends; Tom and I are keen to explore more of Victoria now that we have a car.
I joined my friend Emme for a midweek trip to the Dandenongs to hike the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk. Commonly known as the 1,000 Steps, this popular track departs from the Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground, winding up a steep hill along a creek through lush rainforest, before emerging into a clearing with great views of Melbourne. Complete the loop by taking the Lyrebird Track back to the carpark. It's steep, but short and sweet!
After a fallout on the board of directors, the Vegan Australia crew fell apart, so I'm back in the job market searching for values-driven work. In the meantime, I'm picking up extra shifts at the bike shop.
