Forever Friends Animal Rescue

Autumn often happens in the blink of an eye—the colors change, and then they’re gone. This year, though, with the mild weather, autumn lingered. The leaves changed later than usual and fell slowly. Even more curious: we saw them turning a whole month earlier up in the High Country.

For National Volunteer Week, my work team spent a day at Forever Friends Animal Rescue—a beautiful 100-acre sanctuary in the Yarra Valley.

Run entirely by volunteers, Forever Friends has been rescuing and rehabilitating Victoria’s most vulnerable animals since 2011—those who’ve been abandoned, abused, or are simply out of options. From cats and dogs to rabbits, ex-racehorses and farmed animals, they give each one a second chance.

We enjoyed getting our hands dirty to support such life-changing work.

June 1st marked the official start of winter in Australia, and after a few last record-breaking warm days in Melbourne, the rain finally rolled in.

Luckily, our annual winter escape to the Northern Hemisphere is just around the corner!
